As a teacher, it is a fun way to differentiate instruction when reviewing and teaching characterization, plot development, and inferencing with kids.
This really helped my LEP students learn new vocabulary, too. Every elementary and middle school should have a copy to create fun and innovative lessons. I hope there will be more by this author!
I'm a fan of wordless stories and this one by Ben Toyne doesn't disappoint. The snowman's feelings and dilemma are made clear by the very charming and effective drawings. How often accidental occurrences are misinterpreted and misunderstood resonate as one page turns into another. Children and adults will be able to create their own stories. One puzzlement, I may have missed it, I don't know how the snowman got his coal mouth. But it is clear that the snowman is content to be back on the hill!
"Flurry" is a book that all ages will enjoy. My husband and I enjoyed this book, as did my daughters, my son-in-laws and my grandson. Because the pictures tell the story about the adventures of a snowman who visits a town one day, being able to read is not a necessity. My four year old grandson LOVES this book and portions of it cause him to break out laughing. Not only does this book encourage the "readers" to use their imaginations, but it also a fun way to help children as they work on developing their verbal and written communication skills. My daughter, who is a teacher, immediately listed numerous ways this book could prove beneficial in the classroom.
It is my hope that this book, which is currently available in kindle format only, will soon come out in paperback or hardcover. I showed this book to a couple of my friends, and they immediately expressed a desire to buy copies for their various-aged grandchildren. So they, too, are hoping for a paperback version in the near future.
Ben Toyne, the creator of this fun book, is obviously very talented. I can't wait to see if he will create another book like this in the future.
